All Is Quiet On The Georgia Front, But Next Door Not So Much ….

Plans are in the works for a huge shopping center called The Oxford Commons. According to newspaper reports construction was originally scheduled years ago but due to Indian artifacts around the Davis Farm in Oxford the plans were put on hold. Construction has finally received the green light and will be starting soon. The Oxford Commons will be on the other side of I-20 in the historic Davis Farm site off Exit 188 which is immediately adjacent and to the west of Leon Smith Pwy. Publix will anchor The Oxford Commons and alongside that will be numerous small retail and reports of an Academy Sports & Outdoors. Publix is still being listed from 2011 as needing to receive a construction bid. City officials expect the opening of Publix this fall although I see more Winter 2013. Panera Bread will also open at the Oxford Commons and provide 30 jobs to the city. The deed was signed last Thursday so the massive project can finally get started. The other project being discussed right now in Oxford is a Sam’s Club at the Oxford Exchange which hosts many retailers such as Khols & Target. There is no set start date for Sam’s Club. I would like to thank Nick and The Oxford Sun for helping us gather the facts for you. Oxford-Anniston is a place many of those who live in the western end of Carroll County shop and eat.
