We received lots of questions last week about the “new Arcade” being built in the old laundromat on Church Street east of downtown. Last week the cast of the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Stranger Things” were seen around downtown Douglasville as filming begins for Season Two of the show. The new Arcade will be a focal point in the next season, for at this time unknown reasons. Fans of the series and residents alike will recognize some local spots used for exterior shots in the first season. The exterior of the old City Hall building on Courthouse Square West and Church Street is transformed into the police headquarters of the fictional 1980s Indiana town Hawkins. Before the building was torn down, the old convenience store at the corner of Mason Creek Road and Highway 78 in Winston was also used for an exterior shot in one of the episodes. Filming for the series also occurs in Jackson and McDonough on the south side. We’ll find out in 2017 just how much more of Douglasville was transformed into a midwestern town of the 1980s when the next season of “Stranger Things” premieres sometime in the summer.
