New Stores and Restaurants in Bremen

A new clothing store recently opened in Bremen’s downtown area. Varnum Mercantile opened on October 20 at 119 Buchanan Street in Bremen in the former Cantrell Jewelers store. “We are a southern lifestyle store that carries men’s and women’s clothing and home décor, as well as hats and many other items,” said Chelci Varnum, owner.

A new restaurant will soon enter the local dining scene in downtown Bremen. The restaurant “The Grill,” which will be located at 222 Tallapoosa Street, is currently under construction.  “They’ve completely gutted the old building, and they have made significant progress to the restaurant,” said Amelia Hitchcock, an agent of Alliance Insurance in Bremen. “The Grill will feature some great cuisine, as well as a full service bar. There will be sliding doors at the front that will allow the restaurant to be an open-air setting when weather is appropriate. They will also have a small section for live music and entertainment.”  The Grill has not yet announced an opening date.

City Manager Perry Hicks says Bremen is preparing for its holiday season by partnering with Georgia Power to install LED lighting in the downtown area. “That project is under way, and we hope to have it finished before Thanksgiving,” said Hicks. “We are also planning and getting ready to do our holiday decorations. We have been working with Phoebe Ericson on that, and she’s really been helpful.”

Hicks also said Bremen will be hosting Santa in downtown on December 1.
