Local Athlete Earns Fishing Scholarship

A local high school student has earned a scholarship thanks to her skills in the classroom and with a rod and reel. Taylor Cox, a senior at Carrollton High School, signed a scholarship last week to Bryan College. Taylor has competed on Carrollton High School’s Fishing Team all four year during her academic career at CHS.

Her father, John, says she has competed in more than 50 tournaments during her high school career, and has often finished among the top of the standings.

“She and her partners have amassed a wide variety of finishes, from a first-place finish at Lake Seminole two years ago to a sixteenth-place finish in The National Championship on Kentucky Lake three years ago, and a sixth-place finish at World Finals at Pickwick Lake and a fifth place finish at the Battle of Chickamauga both in 2016,” said Cox.

Taylor was voted honorable mention last year as a junior in the Bassmasters All American voting.

“Although Taylor more often than not is near the top on the leaderboard at tournaments, my favorite thing to see is the smile that stays on her face while enjoying a sport that she truly has a passion for even when she doesn’t catch them,” said Cox.

Taylor will enroll in classes at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, beginning this fall.
