Addison, Puckett, Minerd and Horton recognized as 2018 school system Leaders of the Year

Coweta County School System Leaders of the Year were recognized at the school system’s annual administrative workshop, held June 4 and 5. They included, left to right, Jefferson Parkway Assistant Principal Rebecca Minerd (2018 Assistant Principal of the Year), Newnan High School Principal Chase Puckett (2018 Principal of the Year) and system Student Services Director Evan Horton (2018 Central Office Administrator of the Year).

Four Coweta County School System employees were honored as 2018 “Leaders of the Year” on June 4, in recognition of their contributions to their schools and to the school system.

Each year, the school system’s Annual Leadership Awards recognize a principal, an assistant principal and a district administrator who lead through personal example. The honorees are chosen by district administrators and are awarded at the school system’s annual end-of-year administrative work session (held June 4 and 5 this year).

Newnan High School Principal Chase Puckett was chosen by his peers as the school system’s Principal of the Year. Jefferson Parkway Assistant Principal Rebecca Minerd was chosen by her peers as the 2018 Assistant Principal of the Year. Student Services Director Evan Horton was chosen by his peers as the school system’s Central Office Administrator of the Year.

Coweta County School System HVAC Technician Steve Addison, left, is recognized by school system Superintendent Dr. Steve Barker, right, as the 2018 recipient of the Dr. Robert Lee Award, which recognizes outstanding service and leadership within the school system.

Coweta County School System HVAC Technician Steve Addison was also chosen as the recipient of the 2018 “Robert Lee Leadership Award”. Addison is a 27-year employee of the school system.

While all administrative personnel in the school system submit names and vote on the principal, assistant principal and central office honorees each year, the Superintendent chooses the recipient of the Robert Lee award. The award is named in honor of the late Dr. Robert Lee, who was the Coweta County School System’s Superintendent from 1969 to 1989. The award recognizes leadership, personal courage, and exemplary service at any level of the school system.

“This award recognizes Steve Addison’s dedication and hard work, and his commitment to our school system and our students,” said Barker. “As a leader in his department, he is always dependable, always willing to help, and always represents our system in a positive way. He is an example to all of us who work with him.”

Last year’s Leadership Award recipients included Dr. Julie Raschen (Assessment and Accountability Director, central office administrator of the year), Steve Allen (East Coweta High School Principal, principal of the year), Patrick Sullivan (then-East Coweta High School Assistant Principal, assistant principal of the year) and Vanessa Warner (system Benefits and Worker’s Compensation Specialist, Dr. Robert Lee award).

Along with Addison and Warner, past recipients of the Dr. Robert Lee Award have included the late Don Nixon, who was the Director of the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts, administrator Alan Wood, and custodian Rhonda Bray.
