Lane Closures to Continue Along I-20 for Resurfacing in Douglas County

Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will continue lane closures on I-20 eastbound and westbound between Sweetwater Creek and SR 5/Bill Arp Road in Douglas County for deep milling, inlay and resurfacing on the interstate.  Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan for additional travel times, alternate modes of transportation and/or alternate routes to their destinations.

Weather permitting, these are the scheduled overnight and daytime closures:

I-20 eastbound:  Continuous day and overnight lane closures are scheduled in alternating two right lanes or two left lanes between SR 5/Bill Arp Road and Sweetwater Creek on I-20 eastbound beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19 until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22. 

In addition, these ramps will be closed:

  • The SR 5/Bill Arp Road ramp onto I-20 eastbound will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto I-20 westbound to the Post Road exit, and then to I-20 eastbound. 
  • The I-20 eastbound exit ramp to Chapel Hill will be closed.  Traffic will be detoured onto I-20 eastbound to the SR 92 exit, and then to I-20 westbound.

I-20 westbound: Overnight lane closures are scheduled in the center and right lanes between Sweetwater Creek and SR 5/Bill Arp Road on I-20 westbound beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds while traveling through the work zone. As always, Georgia DOT encourages motorists to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
