City of Villa Rica Announces COVID-19 Preparedness Measures

After Governor Brian Kemp’s statewide press conference and the current monitoring of developments due to the COVID-19 virus; at this time, the City of Villa Rica has made the decision to correspond with the timeline of the closings of the Carroll County School System and the Douglas County School System in relation to public activities.

We will closed five facilities to the public with tentative plans to open on March 30. They are:

The museum and Train at Pine Mountain Gold Museum
Villa Rica Public Library
Gold Dust Park Gym
Senior Center
Powell Park – Early Voting for the Presidential Primary will continue at Powell Park for the week of March 16-20.
Villa Rica Civic Center (V-Plex)

Therefore, all City-run public events are cancelled for two weeks. All City-run recreational games and practices (i.e., baseball, softball, soccer) should be suspended for two weeks and all classes (gymnastics, senior dance, senior lunches) and rentals should be cancelled for the same time period. Home delivery of meals will continue.

Outdoor facilities like the tennis courts and the VPlex playground should remain open for use.

The March 28 Volunteer Banquet should be rescheduled to a date yet to be determined.

In addition, we will cancel the following public meetings: City Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 24 and Downtown Development Authority Meeting on Monday, March 23.

Municipal Court will continue to operate as normal while our Police offices, water plant, both sewer plants, Avanti building, City Hall, and the customer service building will remain open and in operation.

City Hall will remain open for business.
