Franklin Couple Purchases and Reopens The Double Scoop

(Last Updated On: July 29, 2020)

A Franklin couple has purchased The Double Scoop ice cream shop, located at 2197 Franklin Parkway in Franklin, Georgia. In mid-May the coffee, ice cream, and treat shop reopened for business in a new spot directly next to its original location.

Ernest and Misty along with their children Austin and McKayla were all dedicated patrons of The Double Scoop and wanted to one day own the location. Their dreams came true, especially for their youngest daughter, McKayla, who cheerfully tells us, “I always wanted to work at The Double Scoop. It was my dream job. I didn’t have a clue that my family was finalizing the purchase of it. I was so excited!”

The Double Scoop is open year round and also features their own blend of coffee, 12 Beans. A patio was recently installed which offers families a fun and relaxing area with outdoor seating, cornhole, and jenga.

Misty says, “We want the community to eat here and play here. The recreation center across town has already brought many families and kids in with happiness all over their faces.” Soon the shop will allow for community Bible studies, coffee groups, and book clubs.

Bringing joy to people is what the owners are most passionate about. During our interview, Misty shared a story about a large group of people from the football team at Heard County High School, “Immediately when I pulled out a pan of brownies, the team’s coach had some of his players line up and get them. We sold the whole tray’s worth!”

She shared another story about a couple who passed the sweet shop, and thirty-miles later a passenger in the car noticed a cinnamon roll pop up on her Facebook newsfeed. She told her husband to turn around, and 30 minutes later the sticky-bun was devoured. That same couple soon became loyal customers.

Originally from Mansfield, Missouri, Misty learned to cook from her grandmothers, Lavouna and Velma and mother Deana. Ernest’s family ran a cajun restaurant for several years in the same city.  Those looking to enjoy tastes from the kitchen are going to be quite pleased.

During a recent visit The City Menus’ team tried the strawberry shortcake and apple turnovers, which we thought were absolutely delicious!

Both Misty and Ernest close with, “We want to thank the community for supporting our small business along with the many others here in Franklin.”

The Double Scoop will host a grand opening celebration soon.
