Carroll County School System Hosts Annual District Spelling Bee

Carroll County School System held its annual District Spelling Bee on January 14, at the Carroll County Schools Performing Arts Center. Eighteen students from Carroll County elementary and middle schools participated in the event. After 16 rounds of competition, Charlie Duke, a seventh-grade student from Bowdon Middle School, earned first place by correctly spelling the word, “abracadabra”. Ava Porter, an eighth-grade student from Villa Rica Middle School, earned the second-place title. By winning first place in the District Spelling Bee, Duke is eligible to compete in the Georgia Association of Educators Region Spelling Bee, which will be held on February 26th in Atlanta, Georgia. The winner of the Region Spelling Bee will then advance to state competition on March 18, 2022 at Georgia State University.

Jennifer Shirley, Director of Elementary Education and District Spelling Bee Coordinator stated, “We are very proud of all of this year’s Spelling Bee contestants and their commitment to academic excellence. We congratulate Charlie and wish him all the best at the next level of competition!”
