(Carrollton, Ga. – September 24, 2014) The Carroll County Band Exhibition was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Central High School and featured Marching Bands from Bowdon High, Carrollton High, Central High, Mt. Zion High, Temple High, Villa Rica High and the University of West Georgia. The annual exhibition is used as a showcase for local bands and to raise money for the Dr. Norman L. Padgett scholarship fund which is given annually to a graduating senior from a Carroll County High School who will major in Music Education at the collegiate level.
Dr. Norman L. Padgett has been an instrumental part of the band programs in Carroll County for over 4 decades. Beginning his career as the band director at Bowdon High School, and later serving as a principal, board of education member, and even mayor of Bowdon. Dr. Padgett continues to assist with the band programs at several Carroll County Schools. Eleven years ago, the Carroll County Band Director’s Association was formed and one of their first projects was to develop a scholarship in honor of Dr. Padgett and his years of contribution to the band programs in Carroll County.
Before the event began, over 500 students from all 6 High School Bands joined together for the playing of the National Anthem.
