A powerful storm system will impact our area in east Alabama and west Georgia late tonight through late Tuesday morning. This is a multi-hazard (weather threat) event:
Heavy Rainfall Flooding Potential
Strong Non thunderstorm winds (beginning Monday afternoon)
Heavy rain will move into east Alabama and West Georgia by 4:00 am, Tuesday morning.
Primary Concerns
Heavy rain: 1 to 2 inches of rain in < 3 hours. 2-4 inches storm total rainfall forecast for our area.
Gradient non thunderstorm wind gusts of up to 45 mph Severe Winds > 60 MPH with main line (especially south of I 20)
Tornado Threat mainly south of LaGrange to Macon to Augusta line
Watches and Warnings – The following watches and warnings have already been issued for our area:
Flood Watch through 7:00 pm on January 9 – Excessive runoff may result in flooding
Wind Advisory through 7:00 pm on January 9 – 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph.
