Central High School junior Michele Presley authored, illustrated and published a book guiding students through the art of poetry. Her book is titled, “Winnie Whitlock’s Guide to Poetry.”
“As a student, I found writing poetry to be intimidating and somewhat uncomfortable. Assuming other students may have the same apprehensions, I decided to write a story to help students find their path to writing poetry,” said Michele.
The reader is led through the classroom experience of Winnie Whitlock. She has a passion for writing, yet dreads working on poetry. Winnie learns to embrace and enjoy writing poetry as she becomes inspired by grand images of pranks and playgrounds, finally realizing that despite how confusing they may seem, poems can be much more than they initially appear.
Her book is geared for the intermediate reader who wants to write poetry in a fun and engaging way. A complete poetry format glossary is at the end of the story.
Michele is a 4.0 student and an avid fine arts student. She has participated in several choral events, traveling to New York where she performed with Central High School’s chorus at Carnegie Hall. She has been a member of All-State Chorus and the Carroll County Honor Chorus. Michele has been a cast member for Central High School musical productions Shrek, Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, and Grease.
