The former space of The Haven in downtown Villa Rica is getting a new look to get ready for Main Street Mercantile. Owner Sherry Palermo has restoration goals of returning the space to its “original vintage and rustic charm.” The store is currently in the early stages of renovation plans which began March 1 and will be completed for the April 27th soft opening. As mentioned before the store’s location was formerly occupied by The Haven. “Main Street Mercantile was an opportunity to bring our businesses close to our home and community,” Palermo said. According to her there are not any major changes or renovations that will be made to the interior or exterior of the building, but the focus is on the nostalgic, historical, original details through restoration and repairs. The building’s history is filled with amazing stories dating back to 1933. “We love living in a small town that embraces the past and looks toward the future while supporting and strengthening our local community,” Palermo said.
In addition to the restoration efforts, another improvement being worked towards is a space design to encompass a vendor mercantile market with 12 to 14 different spaces. These spaces will be occupied by local community business owners offering artisan handcrafted wares, textiles, boutique clothing, exclusive candles and soaps, local sports and community tourism, collectibles and gifts, local honey, jams, pantry items, furniture, paint, pet accessories, plants, and vintage, farmhouse, rustic and inspirational home decor. “We are hoping to have something special for everyone,” Palermo said. “We are truly grateful to be able to bring our favorite happy place to downtown Villa Rica and to work close to home. We look forward to meeting everyone soon.” The grand opening is currently scheduled for the first week in May. The address is 302 Main Street, Villa Rica.
