Carroll County Georgia has a lot to offer visitors, and hidden in the northwest corner of our county is a jewel—the city of Temple. Mayor Micheal Johnson gave us the 411 on Temple’s origin and it was fascinating. Did you know the city was recognized by the Georgia General Assembly on August 28, 1883, and named in honor of Robert Henry Temple, a chief engineer for the railroad?
The annual Founder’s Day celebration first began in 2009. This celebration gives the residents of Temple and visitors a chance to learn about the city’s history as well as taking in all the food, drinks, crafts, arts, and so much more. With over seventy vendors 2024’s celebration will be the best ever. The fun begins with a parade in downtown Temple at 4:30 P.M. on September 28th. The festival will start at 5:00 P.M. at 240 Rome Street.
There will be different services, civic organizations, church groups, and let’s not forget the entertainment lined up. Mayor Johnson disclosed, “The Temple High School band and chorus, as well as Temple Middle School chorus will perform. In addition, we have Matt & Abi, Roy Saunders, and the Doc Wynn Band. There will be a mixture of Christian, Country, and a blend of Pop and Rock. Pro wrestling will also take part. Entertainment starts at 5:30 P.M. and will continue until the Fireworks display commences.”When asked what the mayor and the City of Temple wanted to say to the public, he told me, “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy our 141st anniversary.” He also wanted to thank their sponsors: Carroll EMC, Temple Ace Hardware, Southeast Civil Group, Turnipseed Engineers, Hydra Service, F.S. Scarbrough, Collins Homes, Janus, GFL, Ingles, and FLEXTC.
