The Arts Festival of Carrollton returns to the Center for the Arts October 12 and 13 for its twenty-first year presenting fine artists from across the United States.
“Each year I wonder how we can make the next festival even better,” said Center for the Arts Manager Tim Chapman. “Our festival committee has once again organized a great event. We have more than 75 artists this year. That is the largest number of artists since I have been here. We’ll have 17 different performances including all types of music, dance and a few surprises.”
Last year’s Best in Show artist, Obayana Ajanaku, will conduct a workshop with high school art students on Friday before the festival begins. Collaborating organizations such as Neva Lomason and the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum will be on site.
The focus of the festival this year is public art. Attendees can join in and participate in the making of a community mural designed by tattoo artist, Craig Foster. The arts center will give away free temporary tattoos to 1000 participants. Literary artists will also have works on sale.
The two-day event is held each year on the second weekend in October and features visual artists, live entertainment and demonstrations and food trucks. The festival will also host a performance by the Carrollton Jazz Orchestra at the Amp at Adamson Square, Saturday night at 7pm.
