Carrollton Parks and Rec Named Agency of the Year

The Carrollton Parks and Recreation Department was named state Agency of the Year at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s Annual Conference Awards Banquet in Columbus, November 6.

“Our department is honored to be recognized by our peers and GRPA,” said CPRD Director John Layng. “This recognition is a testament to our staff’s hard work, commitment and dedication to the great city we serve.”

The designation is for the 20,000 – 40,000 population category.

The CPRD also attended the National Recreation and Parks Association’s annual Best of the Best ceremony on October 9 in Atlanta as part of the national group’s annual conference. The department was re-accredited by NRPA’s Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.

CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation for park and recreation agencies and is a measure of an agency’s overall quality of operation, management and service to the community. This mark of distinction indicates that an agency has met rigorous standards related to the management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety and services.

As part of the accreditation process, the CPRD had to demonstrate compliance with 154 recognized standards and document all policies and procedures. Often the process helps identify efficiencies and heighten areas of accountability, all of which translate into higher quality service and operation.

The national accreditation and statewide accolade follow closely the department’s district level honors bestowed at the GRPA Fourth District Awards in Temple, October 23: Agency of the Year for Class B, Outstanding Support Staff Park and Maintenance Network – Marvin Hutchinson and the Outstanding Project Class B – Lake Carroll Project.
