When Jill Pierce moved to Carrollton in 2002 as a State Farm agent, she quickly realized that this university town was a thriving community with the University of West Georgia at its heart. Over the years, Pierce has developed a strong connection to UWG, recognizing the vital role it plays in shaping the local economy, workforce and culture.
“UWG is an essential part of our community,” Pierce said. “It touches so many aspects of what Carrollton can give and provide. From education to innovation, the university is a cornerstone of our success.”
Pierce’s support for UWG Athletics stems from her belief in the transformative power of sports and education. As the university elevated to Division I athletics in 2024, she saw an opportunity for growth not just for UWG but their entire community.
“Being Division I elevates UWG across the board,” Pierce explained. “It brings in talented students, provides scholarships and creates a college experience that sets students up for success following graduation.”
Her passion for giving back to the next generation is highlighted in her dedication to supporting scholarships. For Pierce, it’s more than financial aid; it’s about empowering students and providing opportunities for them to reach their full potential.
“Being able to provide scholarships for students is a blessing,” she said. “It encourages them to work hard and gain experience in college to prepare themselves for a successful life.”
Pierce also emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the university and the Carrollton community.
“Just like universities should embrace the community, the community should embrace the university,” she noted.
