Bremen Schools Recognized as Math Leaders by the Georgia Department of Education

The Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) recently announced the winners of the 2023-2024 Math Leader Awards, honoring schools across the state for exceptional achievement or growth in mathematics. Bremen City Schools was among those recognized, highlighting the district’s commitment to academic excellence and its focus on empowering students with critical numeracy skills.

The Math Leader Awards celebrate schools that have demonstrated notable achievement or improvement in students’ proficiency in mathematics. Criteria for the awards include growth in the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above, with a focus on key benchmarks in fifth and eighth grades, as well as performance on the Algebra: Concepts and Connections End of Course (EOC) test at the high school level. The awards emphasize the importance of strong numeracy skills as a foundation for students’ future academic and career success.

Shannon Christian, Superintendent of Bremen City Schools, reflected on the significance of the recognition, saying:

“These awards exemplify the dedication of our students and teachers in their pursuit of excellence. We are grateful to State Superintendent Richard Woods for recognizing these achievements in Bremen and across Georgia. A strong public education system that values hard work, commitment, and success strengthens its community and its citizens—and that makes Bremen, GA, truly special.”

This recognition reaffirms Bremen’s dedication to fostering a culture of academic growth and achievement. Through collaborative efforts between students, teachers, and the broader school community, Bremen continues to set a high standard in public education.

The Math Leader Awards program underscores the Georgia Department of Education’s commitment to preparing students for future opportunities, recognizing that mathematical proficiency is crucial in today’s fast-evolving workforce. By celebrating schools that lead the way in math education, GADOE aims to inspire continued progress and innovation across the state.

As Bremen joins the ranks of Georgia’s top-performing schools in mathematics, the district solidifies its reputation as a hub of educational excellence—one that values the hard work, resilience, and achievements of its students and educators.
