When Tanner Health and the University of West Georgia (UWG) partnered in 2013 to establish the Tanner Health School of Nursing (THSON), they aimed to redefine nursing education and elevate health care across the region and beyond.
Under the leadership of its new dean, Imelda Reyes, DNP, MPH, APRN, FAANP, THSON is poised to continue its mission of shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals with cutting-edge education and hands-on training.
On Feb. 5, Tanner hosted a special meet-and-greet luncheon at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton to welcome Reyes, as well as interim UWG President Dr. Ashwani Monga, Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Jon Preston, and other key program leaders, directors, and administrators from both Tanner and the THSON.
“Strong partnerships between health systems and universities are essential to community-based health care,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health. “When we partnered with the University of West Georgia to create THSON, we were working to build the next great generation of healthcare professionals.”
During the event, Howard and Dr. Reyes highlighted how Tanner’s strategic partnerships — both in higher education and across the healthcare industry — are essential to disrupting the healthcare landscape for the better.
“Health care is evolving faster than ever, and the demand for highly skilled nurses and clinicians has never been greater,” Howard emphasized.
Dr. Monga also focused on the transformative impact the partnership with Tanner Health has on nursing education and community care.
“This partnership extends beyond the classroom, directly enhancing the quality and accessibility of care for our students and the entire UWG community,” said Dr. Monga. “We We’re not just educating future nurses — we’re investing in a healthier future for all.”
For more than a decade, THSON has prepared students to enter the ever-evolving healthcare industry, ensuring they graduate with the skills, confidence and expertise needed to make an immediate impact on their patients’ lives.
Technology, innovation and education have always been the cornerstones of Tanner, and that same approach drives THSON.
“We’re not just preparing students for a career; we’re redefining what health care means for the patients we serve and the future of nursing education,” said Dr. Monga. “With Dr. Reyes at the helm, bringing a wealth of expertise and leadership, this is an exciting new chapter for Tanner and the Tanner Health School of Nursing. We couldn’t be more thrilled for what’s ahead.”
THSON’s award-winning academic program offers an unparalleled learning experience, equipping students with the tools to become exceptional nurses and leaders in the field.
With state-of-the-art facilities in Carrollton and Newnan, a robust online graduate program and a forward-thinking curriculum, THSON prepares graduates to redefine the future of health care.
“Combining UWG’s academic excellence with Tanner’s resources and clinical expertise, THSON is empowering students to become not just the next generation of great nurses but also innovative leaders who will help us drive transformational change to make health care better for all,” said Dr. Reyes.
