Southwire Announces Divestiture of Sumner Business to S.F.E. Group

As the company continues to align itself to its goals and execute upon its strategic plan, Southwire announced today that it has divested its Sumner Material Lifting & Welding product lines and brand to Specialized Fabrication Equipment (S.F.E.) Group.

“As we continue to evaluate our practices and align with the company’s priorities, we hold our strategic goals at the forefront of our minds,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire’s President and CEO. “We are committed to our adjacency strategy fit within our goals of serving the electrical market.”

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, S.F.E. Group is home to multiple fabrication tool businesses and brands. Founded in 2019, S.F.E. Group was formed by the merger of three industry leaders in pipe fabrication equipment, tooling and machinery. This combination of expertise makes S.F.E. Group a natural fit as the home for the Sumner brand.

Southwire’s Sumner business is based in Houston, Texas, and has been a part of the company since 2016. The Houston facility produces material lifts and welding products, which will add value to S.F.E. Group’s existing business and align well with its priorities. Southwire team members employed at the Houston Sumner facility have received offers to join the S.F.E. Group team.

“When making any important decision, our team members and customers remain our highest priority,” said Norman Adkins, Southwire’s chief operating officer. “To the team members joining the S.F.E Group team, we thank you for all of your contributions and hard work, and we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors.”
