Willowbrooke at Tanner kicked off Mental Health Awareness Month a few days early with its annual “Light Up the Night” event last Friday, April 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Lumpkin Drive Greenbelt Trailhead in Carrollton. Attendees gathered for an evening filled with connection, community and conversation while shining a light on mental wellness.
Aimed at fostering mental health awareness, the event drew both families and individuals who participated in activities that balanced education with relaxation. Guests enjoyed yoga by the lake, face painting, expressive therapy through music and art and shopping at a vendor market. Food trucks brought flavors to satisfy every craving, and festive glow sticks served as a symbolic reminder to be the light for those struggling in the darkness.
“We had a wonderful time with our community at ‘Light Up the Night’ and are thankful for everyone who joined us to raise awareness for mental health,” said Meagen Thompson, director of behavioral health and development at Tanner Health. “Creating these conversations is a step toward turning awareness into action. We’re excited to continue that momentum with #ShineGreen throughout May.”
“Light Up the Night” also marked the beginning of Willowbrooke at Tanner’s movement to #ShineGreen during Mental Health Awareness Month. Inspired by this year’s theme, Turn Awareness into Action, the campaign encourages community members to show their support by shining green lights or tying green ribbons in visible spaces. It’s a simple yet powerful way to spark conversations around mental health, reduce stigma and foster hope for those in need.
Willowbrooke at Tanner extends heartfelt thanks to its local partner, Southwire, for supporting mental health initiatives and helping drive action in our community.
Upcoming Activities for Mental Health Awareness Month
The #ShineGreen campaign will run throughout the month of May as Willowbrooke continues to advocate for mental health.
