The Carrollton City Council approved several zoning changes, adopted the city’s new budget, and acknowledged a national designation for the community during its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening. The meeting began with the announcement that Carrollton has been officially named a “Runner-Friendly Community” by the Road Runners Club of America. Mayor Betty Cason presented the certificate and recognized the West Georgia Track Club for its leadership in the application process. The designation is valid through 2028.
In zoning matters, the council approved three separate requests following recommendations from the city’s Planning Commission. The first, for 115 Martin Cemetery Road, revised prior conditions to remove a 200-foot buffer restriction, allowing the property owner to build a detached garage. The second request involved 104 Martin Cemetery Road, where the applicant sought to modify the subdivision’s site plan to increase the number of lots from 23 to 28, while preserving green space and adhering to architectural standards. A separate rezoning for 116 Brock Street brought an existing multifamily property into zoning compliance without expanding the development. The conditions for the property now include a density cap, the requirement for the installation of Flock security cameras, and a council review for any future redevelopment.
The council also adopted the city’s Fiscal Year 2025–2026 budget as presented by City Manager David Brooks. In a related financial action, council members certified the current millage rate as the estimated rollback rate for this year’s property tax assessments.
Two sets of board appointments were also approved. Mike Hart and Chris Duffey were reappointed to the Carrollton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Board for a term through 2028. For the Arts Commission, Erin Dixon, Melissa Crawford, and Hallie Hendrickson were appointed, along with Dr. Howard Seeman, all to new terms that will end in 2028.
During the council comments, members highlighted various summer events and activities throughout the city. Councilmember Stacie Gibbs encouraged participation in the Carrollton Half Marathon this fall, while Councilmember Brett Ledbetter and Mayor Pro Tem Jacqulene Bridges promoted local events and the Midtown Waterpark. Mayor Cason also recognized City Manager Brooks for recently having completed the Carl Vinson Institute’s Certified Public Manager course.
