Today marks a meaningful step forward in local environmental efforts as a new in-stream trash trap was installed in Newnan. This innovative device, created and managed by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, is designed to catch floating litter after heavy rains, helping to reduce plastic pollution in local streams before it travels downstream and breaks down into harmful microplastics.

The trash trap will be regularly maintained by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper staff and volunteers to keep it functioning effectively. Their efforts help prevent waste from entering larger waterways and damaging ecosystems.
This installation was made possible with support from the employees of Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Inc., in partnership with Keep Newnan Beautiful. Their collaboration highlights the power of community and corporate responsibility working hand in hand.
