Chairman Michelle Morgan Appoints Kent Johnston as Carroll County Parks Director

Chairman Michelle Morgan is pleased to announce the appointment of Kent Johnston as the new Parks Director for Carroll County. Johnston recently retired from the City of Carrollton after 30 years of dedicated service with the Parks and Recreation Department. For 27 of those years, he served as the Superintendent of Parks, and for 3 years, he served as Director of Parks. His deep-rooted knowledge in horticulture, trail development, and park management makes him a tremendous asset to Carroll County.

A graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture, Johnston brings a strong background in nature conservation, native plant habitats, and the planning and maintenance of multi-use trail systems. He has been a Georgia Certified Landscape Professional since 2003 and previously held certifications as both a Certified Arborist and Playground Safety Inspector.

Johnston was instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the Carrollton GreenBelt, where he served on the Friends of the Carrollton GreenBelt committee and led maintenance efforts from the trail’s inception in 2011. He also developed more than three miles of multi-use nature trails in Carrollton Parks and played a key role in establishing nature trails still in use today on the University of West Georgia campus.

In addition to his professional experience, Johnston has a long history of community involvement, including serving as President and founding board member of Keep Carroll Beautiful. He has overseen numerous facility developments, renovations, and beautification projects throughout his career.

Kent and his wife Kelly have called the West Georgia area home for more than 30 years, where they raised their two sons, Logan and Luke. Logan, a graduate of the University of West Georgia and Georgia State University Law School, is now practicing law in Carrollton. Luke is currently attending Kennesaw State University and working in the computer technology field.

An avid mountain biker and hiker, Johnson enjoys exploring natural areas with his family and is excited to begin this next chapter in public service.

“I look forward to working with Carroll County Parks to enhance an already impressive park system,” said Johnston. “Creating natural spaces and trails that can be enjoyed by all members of our community is something I’m deeply passionate about.”

Chairman Michelle Morgan added, “Kent’s vision and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to improve and expand recreational opportunities for the citizens of Carroll County.”
