Red leather suits and skinny ties are not required apparel – but they can’t hurt – as hit ‘80s rockers, The Romantics, close out The Amp’s 2025 Concert Series, September 13.
Formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1977, The Romantics’ music is often categorized as power pop and new wave. The band achieved substantial popularity with their two best-charting songs: What I Like About You and Talking in Your Sleep, both of which have become mainstays on classic rock radio.
The Romantics continue to be re-introduced to new generations via extensive radio airplay, digital music services, various artist compilations and movie soundtracks, including Grown Ups 1 and 2, Freaky Friday, Shrek 2 and Surf’s Up. Their music has also been featured in commercials for Budweiser, Burger King, Applebee’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Esurance, Hampton Inn, TGI Fridays, Old Navy and Toyota.

Show opener, Ociffer, is a new wave-inspired band based in Carrollton. The group was formed in 2017 by Danny Barclay, initially as a one-man studio project, and has grown to include Devin Barclay, Brandon Quigg, Matt Smith and Donny Smith in the line-up.
