Why Proper Tire Disposal Matters:
- Abandoned tires can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the spread of diseases such as West Nile virus.
- Improperly discarded tires are a fire hazard, and tire fires are extremely difficult to extinguish while releasing harmful toxins into the air.
- Tires left in the environment can pollute soil and waterways, posing risks to wildlife and local ecosystems.
- Recycling tires helps conserve landfill space and allows materials to be repurposed into products like rubber mulch, playground surfaces, and road materials.
Keep Newnan Beautiful Director, Page Beckwith shared the organization’s enthusiasm:
“We are thrilled to bring Tire Amnesty Day back to Coweta County through support from the State of Georgia’s Solid Waste Trust Fund. This program is an incredible opportunity for residents. Not only does it help us keep our community cleaner and safer, but it also removes barriers by making tire recycling free for off-rim tires. Thanks to the Star Grant, we’re able to provide this service affordably, which means more residents can take part and make a real difference in our environment.”
