Hilbert Named Head Football Coach at Villa Rica High

Villa Rica High School didn’t need to look far for its next head football coach. Defensive Coordinator Michael Hilbert is the man, the school announced today.

Hilbert has been teaching since 2016. His coaching career began as an assistant football and track and field coach at Carrollton High School. His first coaching role at Villa Rica was as defensive line coach beginning in 2021. He was named defensive coordinator in 2023 and has served in that role during the last three seasons with the Wildcats.

Hilbert also has served as head track and field coach since 2023 and last year led his boys team to a second place finish in Region 5-AAAAA. His track and field teams have had 13 state qualifiers and four top-8 finishers.

“Coach Hilbert is a man of character who brings over a decade of coaching and teaching expertise to the position of Head Football Coach for our Wildcats,” Villa Rica HIgh School Principal Mike Bedosky said. “His passion and dedication is second to none, and I look forward to the continued growth of the program under his leadership.”

Hilbert holds a bachelor of science degree from Walden University and is enrolled in the Masters of Coaching and Fitness Leadership Program at the University of the Cumberlands.

“I am excited to begin this work by building genuine, meaningful relationships with our students, teachers, coaches, parents, staff members, and the entire Villa Rica community,” Hilbert said. “I believe deeply in being intentional and process-driven, making sure we explore every opportunity to grow while honoring the rich tradition that already exists at Villa Rica High School.”

Hilbert and his family are planted in Villa Rica. His wife, Kym, is assistant principal at Glanton-Hindsman Elementary, and they have three daughters. The oldest, Jiyah, is a VRHS alumna enrolled at the University of West Georgia. The younger two are both enrolled in Villa Rica Cluster schools.

“My family and I are extremely grateful to continue serving in the Villa Rica community,” Hilbert said. “It is an honor to continue to build upon the rich tradition in The City of Gold. Together, through trust, collaboration, and shared purpose, we will continue moving forward. Stronger Together. We Are VR.”
