Approved by City Council on FEB 2
A unique redevelopment is brewing in downtown Carrollton, centered around a historic structure at 202 Bradley Street. The proposed Workhorse facility, also referred to as the Georgia Gin Distillery, will blend local heritage with a fresh mix of experiences aimed at both residents and visitors.
The site was originally part of an old hosiery mill, with a portion dating back to 1906. While much of the property was redeveloped in 2015–16 to include residences, restaurants, and offices, a section housing former stables and a barn has remained untouched. That’s the part now slated for transformation into Workhorse.
This mixed-use facility is envisioned as a destination venue. Plans include a gin distillery, tasting room, cocktail porch, bar, kitchen, brewery, event space, and one residential unit. The developers are also focused on preserving and repurposing historic materials to maintain the building’s character while introducing modern amenities.
Visitors can expect a mezzanine-level bar, a merchandise and dessert kiosk, VIP lounge, and a courtyard space designed for small events and concerts. The layout promotes walkability and encourages connection to the nearby city amphitheater.
The Workhorse is designed to serve as both a production hub and a tourism draw. Spirits will be distilled on-site, including gin, whiskey, and bourbon, with retail offerings ranging from bottled products to canned cocktails.
According to city planning staff, the project supports Carrollton’s long-term vision for its downtown as a lively, pedestrian-friendly area focused on entertainment, dining, and historic preservation. It’s projected that the site could attract more than 20,000 visitors annually within its first few years.
The Mayor and Council of the City of Carrollton will review the proposal during their upcoming Work Session, which takes place on January 22, ahead of the regular City Council meeting that will be Feb 2nd at 6pm. You can view the full agenda by clicking here.
