The work of artists from across the country will be showcased here, April 15 – May 22, when the Georgia Watercolor Society’s National Exhibition returns to the Center for the Arts.
“Hosting this juried show is always an honor for the center,” said Arts Center Manager Tim Chapman. “This year’s national exhibition features 80 works from all over the United States.”
The Georgia Watercolor Society was formed in 1975 to advance the art of watercolor painting in the state. This show features professional artists working in watercolor with different perspectives, styles and themes. From exquisitely detailed still lives to impassioned, impressionistic scenes, the show will explore the beautiful diversity in works that can be accomplished within the medium.
The Center for the Arts will host several events related to the exhibition on April 18 including:
- 10am – 12:30pm: Voting for the People’s Choice Award
- 10:30am: GWS Annual Meeting presentation
- 11am – 12pm – Carol Carter artist demonstration
- 12pm – 2pm: Opening reception
- 12pm – 1pm: Virtual visit of the gallery / live streaming visit of the watercolors at the Roush Gallery
In conjunction with the exhibit, the center will host two sessions of a Gallery Play workshop on May 16: Fun with Watercolors, Family Edition (Ages: 4 – adult, 11am – 12:30pm) and Adult Edition (Ages 18+, 2pm – 3:30pm). Each artist can make a piece of their choosing while trying out different watercolor materials. Gallery Play Saturdays are workshops designed to enhance a participant’s understanding of art on display at the center.
