The City of LaGrange honored LaGrange Police Lt. Craig Wheeler for his 25 years of dedicated service at the recent City Council meeting on July 28.
Lieutenant Craig Wheeler began his career with the LaGrange Police Department in July 2001 and completed the department’s Field Training Officer (FTO) Program later that year. Throughout his 25 years of service, he has served in a variety of patrol, investigative, tactical, and leadership assignments. He was a member of the department’s Bicycle Patrol Unit from 2002 to 2009 and served on the Emergency Services Unit from 2005 to 2013. Promoted to Corporal in 2005, he also served as a Field Training Officer, mentoring and developing newly hired officers.
From March 2003 through September 2004, Lieutenant Wheeler served on active duty with the United States Army in support of overseas operations before returning to the department. In October 2009, he transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he served as a Detective until returning to Patrol in March 2013. Lt. Wheeler was promoted to Sergeant in October 2020, supervising D Shift within the Patrol Division, and then promoted to Lieutenant in October 2025.
Lt. Wheeler currently commands the department’s A and C Patrol Shifts, oversees the Cadet Program, and provides leadership for the Traffic Unit as operational needs require. Since 2012, he has also served as an adjunct instructor, helping train and develop both new recruits and veteran officers. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to leadership, professional development, and dedicated service to the LaGrange Police Department and the community it proudly serves.
