New Bakery Coming to Bremen, Inspired by Family-Owned Mac’s Bakery in Rockmart

A new, locally-owned bakery is preparing to open at 388 Gordon Street in Bremen, bringing homemade doughnuts, cookies, pies, cupcakes, and breakfast items to the community.

BB’s Sweets is being opened by a local entrepreneur who said the idea for the business came from her husband’s grandmother.

“My husband’s grandmother owns Mac’s Bakery in Rockmart, Georgia, and we got the idea to open a new one closer to where I live,” she said. “There’s no bakery in Bremen, so we decided to open a new one.”

While BB’s Sweets will operate under a different name, she described it as something of a sister store to Mac’s Bakery, carrying over many of the homemade items and recipes that inspired the new business.

One of the bakery’s signature offerings is expected to be its homemade yeast-raised doughnuts. The doughnuts are mixed from scratch, cut, allowed to rise and then fried. She compared the finished product to the light, fluffy style of a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

“I think that’s what we’re going to be famous for, the doughnuts,” she said.

The menu is also expected to include several varieties of homemade cookies, including chocolate chip, chocolate oatmeal, no-bake oatmeal, peanut butter, and red velvet. The bakery plans to offer a selection of pies, including key lime and lemon, along with cupcakes in flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

The owner said the menu could continue growing after the bakery opens, with feedback from Bremen residents helping shape future offerings.

“We’re going to keep adding to our menu,” she said. “We’re going to ask the people of Bremen what they would like to see in the bakery, so we can take some suggestions.”

If the ingredients and equipment are available and an item can be offered at a reasonable cost, she said the bakery will consider adding customer suggestions to the menu.

BB’s Sweets will not be limited to sweets. The business also plans to serve homemade biscuits, giving customers another breakfast option in Bremen.

Coffee will be available as well, although the bakery will begin with a relatively simple setup, such as a Keurig or self-serve coffee station. The business may expand its coffee offerings later based on customer demand. Coke products, chocolate milk, and other drinks are also expected to be available.

The new bakery is moving into a building at 388 Gordon Street that previously operated as a car lot. Renovations began several months ago, and the property has undergone a major transformation to prepare it for its new use.

The owner said the building is being rented from a friend who has handled much of the renovation work.

“He’s pretty much done the whole thing,” she said.

While an exact opening date was not provided during the interview, work on the building is progressing as the owner continues putting the final pieces of the business together. That includes selecting a point-of-sale system, establishing a business phone number, and completing other operational details.

For now customers can follow BB’s Sweets through social media for updates. The owner said she also plans to launch a website once additional business details are finalized.

“I’m going to eventually do a website once I get all my ducks in a row,” she said.

A grand opening date has not yet been announced, but the owner is looking forward to welcoming the Bremen community.

When asked what she wanted residents to know ahead of the opening, she kept the message simple:

“Just be ready for the sweets.”
