Carrollton High School senior Megan Ou has been selected to serve on the prestigious State School Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council this year, one of only 85 high school students chosen statewide for the honor.
Carrollton High School senior Megan Ou is among 85 Georgia high school students selected to serve on state School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council. With more than 1,400 applicants statewide, Megan rose to the top of this increasingly competitive ambassador program.
“We are excited to celebrate Megan’s accomplishments and the honor of this recognition from the state,” said CHS Principal Dr. Eric Simmons. “She is a student who consistently motivates her classmates, and her ambition drives her active involvement across our campus. I am looking forward to seeing her meaningfully contribute to public education through this opportunity.”
Council members will meet regularly with the state superintendent throughout the academic year. These discussions will focus on the influence of state policies in classrooms. Additionally, SAC members will address various education-related concerns, act as ambassadors representing the superintendent in their schools and communities, and participate in service projects aimed at benefiting schools and students.
Megan has been actively engaged at CHS, consistently maintained a high academic standing, and was named a junior honor marshal, representing the top of her class. Throughout her high school career, she has balanced rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) classes with playing on the school tennis team, competing on the debate team and tutoring young debaters, and serving as class president her junior and senior years. As a sophomore, she organized a forum of female leaders from the community for Women’s History Month, amplifying their voices and providing opportunities for students to network. The event has continued to gain popularity among students and has gained recognition as a favorite forum for guest speakers. In 2025, Megan began her flight training to earn her Private Pilot Certification. Megan’s commitment to being a team player and her eagerness to learn make her an ideal candidate for the SAC.
The SAC comprises students from all regions of Georgia, including rural, suburban, and urban schools (both private and public), ensuring diverse representation from every Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) region. The Georgia Department of Education selects members based on the strength of the ideas and reflections in the essay responses.
“Students can tell us firsthand how the decisions we make affect their learning and their plans for the future. Their feedback helps us understand where we are making progress and where we need to do more,” Superintendent Woods said. “I look forward to getting to know this year’s council members, hearing their ideas, and working together to strengthen educational opportunities across Georgia.”
The 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council will meet later this month to kick off the year at the Georgia Department of Education’s offices.
