The Blake House Thrift Store Opens at The Shoppes at Rome Street in Downtown Carrollton

The following is a press release from Stratus Property Group:

The Blake House is pleased to announce the opening of its newest thrift store at 421 Rome Street, within The Shoppes at Rome Street, a recently redeveloped retail and office center located at 415 Rome Street in downtown Carrollton.

The new location represents the relocation of The Blake House’s South Park Street thrift store to a larger, more visible downtown location. The store will offer shoppers a wide variety of donated merchandise while generating financial support for The Blake House’s Recovery Residence Program, which provides a pathway to recovery for men, through Christ.

“Every purchase at The Blake House Thrift is more than a great find—it helps provide hope and an opportunity for a man seeking a new direction in life,” said Nate Stephens, Executive Director and CEO of The Blake House. “We’re excited to open at 421 Rome Street and become part of the continued growth and revitalization taking place in downtown Carrollton.”

According to The Blake House, proceeds from its thrift stores help fund its recovery program, while donated merchandise provides inventory for the stores and directly supports the organization’s efforts to help men pursuing freedom from addiction. The organization describes its mission through the message “Inspiring Hope, One Purchase at a Time.”

The Carrollton store at 421 Rome Street will join The Blake House’s other local thrift operation at Bowdon Junction, giving the organization two locations serving the Carrollton-area community.

A New Retail Destination at The Shoppes at Rome Street

The Blake House joins a growing group of businesses at The Shoppes at Rome Street, a 40,000-square-foot retail and office center occupying nearly three acres at 415 Rome Street.

Originally constructed in 1963, the property has long been an important part of Carrollton’s commercial landscape. Stratus Property Group acquired the property and undertook a substantial redevelopment designed to modernize the center while maintaining its connection to downtown Carrollton.

Today, The Shoppes at Rome Street is home to a diverse mix of retail, restaurant and professional tenants, including Shuckers Oyster House, Sutton’s American Grill, Robinson Karate Dojo and Traditions Health, among other businesses.

The property is located in downtown Carrollton, placing tenants within easy walking distance of Adamson Square’s restaurants, entertainment venues, shops and community events.

The redevelopment reflects the continued evolution of Rome Street and the surrounding downtown district, with the property providing new opportunities for businesses seeking a prominent downtown location with convenient access and ample on-site parking.

Downtown Carrollton Continues to Grow

The opening of The Blake House Thrift comes at a time of continued investment, redevelopment and activity throughout downtown Carrollton.

Adamson Square remains the center of downtown’s entertainment and social activity, with “The Amp” amphitheater hosting concerts, movies, trivia, community gatherings and other events throughout the year. Downtown also features a growing collection of locally owned restaurants, retailers, breweries, professional services and other businesses.

Major community events—including Mayfest, one of Carrollton’s longest-running annual festivals—continue to draw residents and visitors to the downtown district.

The continued investment in downtown Carrollton has also created opportunities for adaptive reuse and redevelopment of existing properties, helping bring new businesses and uses to areas that have historically been important parts of the city’s commercial landscape.

“The growth we’ve seen in downtown Carrollton has created a lot of momentum for the entire area,” said Jeff Koon, President of Stratus Property Group. “The Blake House is a great addition to The Shoppes at Rome Street because it brings a strong community mission together with an active retail use. We think the relocation to 421 Rome Street will be beneficial both for The Blake House and for the continued revitalization of this part of downtown.”

Stratus Property Group Leads Redevelopment and Leasing

Stratus Property Group is handling leasing for The Shoppes at Rome Street and is responsible for marketing the property’s available retail and professional office space.

The Georgia-based commercial real estate firm provides brokerage, development and real estate services throughout the Southeast, with experience across retail, office, multifamily, student housing and other commercial real estate sectors.

Stratus acquired the 415 Rome Street property and subsequently embarked on a redevelopment designed to reposition the approximately 40,000-square-foot center as a modern retail and office destination serving downtown Carrollton.

The redevelopment included significant improvements to the property and its common areas while creating opportunities to attract new businesses to the Rome Street corridor.

“Our vision for The Shoppes at Rome Street was to take a property with a long history in Carrollton and create a destination that works for today’s businesses and today’s consumers,” Koon said. “We’re particularly pleased to see the property become home to businesses and organizations that contribute to the community in different ways.”

About The Blake House

Through daily spiritual disciplines, accountability, and meaningful relationships, we help men rediscover their purpose, identity, and potential through a personal relationship with Christ.

Its thrift stores play an important role in supporting that mission. Donations provide merchandise for the stores, while purchases generate funds that help make recovery opportunities available to men who otherwise may not be able to afford a program.
