Christian Thorn, The Seamstresses on the Square: A New Alterations Shop Brings Elegance to Carrollton

A passion for fashion and a commitment to family are the threads weaving together the story behind *Christian Thorn, The Seamstress on the Square*, a new alterations shop opening in downtown Carrollton. With an official opening slated for Martin Luther King Day and a grand celebration planned soon after, this boutique promises to become a beloved fixture for Carrollton residents seeking expert garment alterations and custom creations.

The inspiration for the shop is as personal as it is professional. “My husband was born and raised here in Carrollton,” explains the owner, who has built a career specializing in bridal and formal wear alterations for over 12 years. “After years of living in North Carolina and Tennessee, where I worked for a custom bridal designer in Nashville, we decided to return home. His dad, Billy Rowland, was very sick, and we wanted to be close to family. Sadly, he passed away October 2023, but being here means my mother-in-law has her grandbabies nearby, and we’re where we’re meant to be.”

Opening a business wasn’t always part of the plan, but it felt like a natural evolution of her craft. Currently a full-time fashion design student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta, the owner is blending hands-on expertise with academic study. “I’ve always been good at alterations and making garments fit perfectly,” she shares. “Now, I’m diving deeper into the structural and technical aspects of design, like pattern-making and construction, to refine my skills even further.”

This combination of experience and education has made her an in-demand seamstress. What began as a home studio quickly outgrew its humble beginnings. “I set up a full fitting area in the entryway of our house, took over a spare bedroom for storing dresses, and transformed our dining room into my sewing area,” she laughs. “It got so busy, so fast. My husband finally said, ‘We need to move this into a building.’”

The new shop, conveniently located just minutes from her current home studio, is already creating buzz in the community. Much of her initial business came through word-of-mouth referrals and partnerships with local bridal boutiques like Downtown Gowns and J. Andrew’s Bridal in Peachtree City. Clients appreciate her dedication to quality, attention to detail, and her genuine passion for helping people feel their best in their clothes.

Whether you’re a bride seeking flawless alterations for your dream gown, someone looking to refresh the fit of a favorite piece, or in need of a custom garment, *Christian Thorn* aims to be the go-to destination for all things tailoring and design.

With the building ready and plans in motion, the shop is set to open its doors on Martin Luther King Day, providing a fresh start for 2025. The grand opening celebration in February will offer the community an opportunity to tour the boutique, meet the owner, and learn about the services available.

For this entrepreneur, it’s more than just a business—it’s about building connections. “Carrollton feels like home in every way now,” she says. “This shop is a way for me to share what I love with this community while honoring the journey that brought us here.”
