The Bremen Board of Education recognized outstanding student achievements, reviewed financial progress, and approved a series of personnel changes during its regular meeting Monday night.
After the chairman’s calling the meeting to order, the board jumped into celebration with the recognition of Bremen City Schools’ literary team and individual state champions, who were honored for their academic accomplishments. The team clinched the Class A Division I State Championship at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Literary State Championships held on March 22 at Bremen High School. The victory was a testament to the team’s dedication and excellence in literary arts. The board also recognized individual students who earned state titles in various literary events, highlighting their exceptional talents and hard work.
The Bremen Middle School MathCounts team received special recognition during the meeting for their outstanding performance in the 2025 Georgia MathCounts State Competition held in late March. The team advanced through regional contests to compete at the state level, showcasing their strong problem-solving skills and dedication to mathematics.
During the finance update, Allen Pullen, director of finance, reported that local ad valorem tax collections and SPLOST revenue from Haralson and Carroll counties totaled $259,838.68 in March. For 2024, the district levied $5.6 million in local taxes, with 99.4% already collected. The district also received $318,240 from the state through the 2023 Homeowner’s Tax Relief initiative. In addition, title ad valorem tax collections for fiscal year 2025 have reached $374,675, 75% of the projected $500,000. The board unanimously approved the March financial report.
Board members also approved a consent agenda that included revisions to financial reporting and internet use policies, a tax abatement memorandum of understanding, and a request to make surplus a basketball shooting machine. The board also approved a Bremen High School field trip to the Key Largo Marine Research Lab and granted Bremen Steel Sports permission to use the high school gym.
District leaders provided reports with updates from departments including student support, school nutrition, technology, and facilities. The board approved several personnel actions, including an upcoming retirement from Bremen Middle School and new hires for the 2025–’26 school year across the district. Appointments included positions at the middle school, elementary schools, and Bremen Academy, as well as two substitute teacher approvals. A staff transfer from Bremen Academy to Bremen Middle School and the certified personnel list for Bremen High School were also approved. All personnel items received unanimous approval. The meeting closed after routine updates, with the next regular board meeting scheduled for May.
