West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) was honored to welcome U.S. Congresswoman Lucy McBath to its Douglas Campus yesterday for a special visit spotlighting the college’s innovative workforce training programs and the exceptional students they serve.

A steadfast advocate for education and workforce development, Congresswoman McBath was warmly greeted by WGTC President Dr. Julie Post, senior leadership, faculty, and community partners. The visit included a tour of several state-of-the-art labs and classrooms, where McBath engaged directly with students, instructors, and program leaders.

Among the highlights of the visit were inspiring conversations with two Metallica Scholars and three Microsoft Scholars, who shared how WGTC’s programs have transformed their educational journeys and opened doors to rewarding career paths.

“We were absolutely honored to have Congresswoman McBath on campus today,” said Dr. Post. “Her visit gave our students a chance to share their personal stories and allowed us to showcase the outstanding workforce development efforts happening right here at WGTC. We also had the opportunity to discuss our vision for future growth as we continue to meet the needs of our expanding community.”

Congresswoman McBath expressed strong support for WGTC’s mission, showing genuine excitement as she spoke with students and faculty about their work, their goals, and their dreams.

“She is a true advocate for education and workforce development—and that’s exactly what we’re all about,” Dr. Post added. “It was fantastic to see her energy and her passion for the kind of hands-on, high-quality training we provide.”
