CHS senior participates in Governor’s Honors Program

Luis Marti Reyes, a rising senior at Carrollton High School, recently participated in the Governor’s Honors Program, a four-week residential summer program for gifted and talented rising high school juniors and seniors, hosted at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

Luis earned this opportunity after passing the rigorous application and personal interview rounds to receive an invitation. Throughout his time at GHP, his focus was World Languages (Spanish), where he analyzed renowned music, literature, and cinema found broadly in Spanish culture.

Students were tasked with exploring an elective course and developing a culminating project. Luis chose to turn his focus to creative writing, where he rediscovered this passion. He plans to continue the story he began writing at GHP.

“Being part of the Governor’s Honors Program has been a truly life-changing academic experience. I’ve deepened my understanding of the Spanish language and discovered new ways to express myself through it,” said Luis. “This program helped me grow more independent and confident, giving me a real glimpse into what college life might be like. Most importantly, it has taught me that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of it.”
