A New Chapter for Newnan Book Co. — Elizabeth Webber Steps Into a Dream Role as the Bookstore’s New Owner

For Elizabeth Webber, becoming the new owner of Newnan Book Co. feels like something straight out of a favorite novel—equal parts heartwarming and meant-to-be.

When Elizabeth and her family moved to Newnan in 2022, the bookstore quickly became their go-to spot. Her preschooler fell in love with storytime, and Elizabeth found herself enjoying conversations with fellow book lovers. The shop, originally opened in 2021 by Laura Meredith, offered a cozy, welcoming space that made a lasting impression. So when Laura announced her retirement, Elizabeth knew it was the right time to turn the page on a new chapter—not just for the bookstore, but for her own career.

Elizabeth had spent her professional life in book publishing, since graduating from the University of Georgia in 2012. “I always knew I wanted to keep working in books,” she says, “but the job I had wasn’t the right fit anymore. Owning Newnan Book Co. was the perfect pivot.”

Elizabeth Webber, new owner of Newnan Book Co., shares her passion for stories inside the shop.

One of the first updates Elizabeth made was to the store’s signage and branding—a natural move, given her background as an art director for book covers. “Design is incredibly important to me,” she explains. “I’m so proud of the new look. Krystal Maynor did the painting, and Jackie Baxter collaborated with me on the graphics. They helped bring my vision to life.”

Inside the shop, the heartbeat of Newnan Book Co.—its community—remains strong; but readers will also find thoughtful enhancements. Elizabeth has refreshed the book selection with her blend of literature training and industry experience. The shop now carries a wide variety of new releases, national and indie bestsellers, regional favorites, classics, and a newly expanded children’s room.

Another standout? Signed editions and limited runs often pop up in the stacks. And for the bookstore merch lovers, there are branded hats, tees, and totes—essentials for any indie bookshop enthusiast.

“Our tagline is ‘A good book is not hard to find,’ and I really believe that,” Elizabeth says. The store carries only new books, but their range is wide, and the shop’s bestsellers often reflect what’s trending nationally—think Emily Henry, Riley Sager, Mel Robbins, and Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Still, Elizabeth is just as excited about the eclectic backlist titles that make their way to the counter: everything from Nietzsche to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. “The diversity in what our customers read is amazing. It shows how much this community values different perspectives and stories. We love helping people find exactly what they’re looking for—or something they didn’t even know they wanted.”

Need something not in stock? Special orders are always welcome.

After a successful grand opening in June, Elizabeth is excited to keep the energy going. The store is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 A. M. to 5:00 P. M., with extended hours until 6:00 P.. M on Thursdays and Fridays. And every Friday at 10:30 A. M. little readers can enjoy preschool storytime—an event that holds a special place in Elizabeth’s heart.
