Carroll County Mental Health Advocates Hosts the Georgia Recovery Bus at UWG on Sept. 16 during Statewide Tour Celebrating Recovery

September is nationally recognized as Recovery Month, a time to honor the strength, resilience, and hope of individuals and families impacted by addiction.

This year, Carroll County will mark the occasion in a powerful way by welcoming the Georgia Recovery Bus on its statewide tour, with a highly anticipated stop at the University of West Georgia (UWG) on September 16, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The event is led by The Recovery Spot of West Georgia, Carroll County’s only peer-led recovery community organization, and serves to amplify the message that recovery is not only possible it is happening every day in communities across Georgia.

“The Recovery Bus Tour is more than a mobile outreach event, it’s a symbol of connection, education, and empowerment,” said Alisha Beck, Program Director at The Recovery Spot. “We are proud to bring this initiative to the heart of our community, where we can inspire hope, reduce stigma, and remind individuals and families that recovery is not only possible, it’s worth celebrating.”

The Georgia Recovery Bus Tour is an official State of Georgia National Recovery Month event, funded by Commissioner Kevin Tanner of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). The tour is supported by the Georgia General Assembly Working Group on Addiction and Recovery and organized in partnership with the Georgia Council for Recovery, the exclusive statewide partner with DBHDD for this historic initiative. Every stop on the tour is free and open to the public, designed to educate, uplift, and unite communities across the state.

The Recovery Spot of West Georgia, based in Carrollton, plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their recovery journeys. Through daily support groups, recovery coaching, crisis navigation, and family-centered services, the center provides a lifeline to those seeking healing and stability. As a peer-run model, it stands as a testament to the power of lived experience, empathy, and community.

The UWG stop on the Recovery Bus Tour will include:

  • Free Narcan training and distribution

  • Opportunities to connect with peer specialists and local service providers

“This event isn’t just for those in recovery,” Beck added. “It’s for families, professionals, community leaders, and anyone who believes in the power of second chances. Recovery is not just an individual journey; it’s a community effort.”

Recovery Month 2025 arrives at a pivotal time, as communities across the nation grapple with the ongoing impact of the addiction crisis. By highlighting lived experiences and offering tangible resources for change, this event seeks to challenge stigma, uplift hope, and strengthen the recovery ecosystem in West Georgia.
