Rebecca Wheeler, Dean of Adult Education at West Georgia Technical College (WGTC), recently completed the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) Senior Leadership Academy, a transformative professional development program aimed at advancing careers within TCSG and its 22 colleges. Wheeler was one of 25 participants in the program’s third cohort, which consisted of individuals who have displayed outstanding potential for leadership. Graduates were recognized during a ceremony at the 2025 TCSG Fall Leadership Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
“The Senior Leadership Academy represents TCSG’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of leaders within our colleges and system,” said TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier. “These graduates embody the excellence and dedication that define our system, and they are well prepared to continue driving Georgia’s reputation as the top state for talent.”
Designed to strengthen leadership across TCSG’s dynamic, statewide network, the Senior Leadership Academy provides participants with the skills, insights, and experiences needed to lead effectively. Throughout the year, participants engage in hands-on leadership training, executive coaching, and strategic discussions on higher education policy, workforce development, community engagement, and innovation in technical education. The program also offers a comprehensive understanding of TCSG operations and administrative functions, including strategic planning, data-driven decision making, budgeting, student affairs, compliance, workforce development, and legal services.
“The Senior Leadership Academy is about preparing leaders who will continue to strengthen our colleges, inspire our students, and advance Georgia’s workforce,” said Dr. Alvetta Thomas, President of Executive Leadership and Talent Initiatives at TCSG. “This year’s graduates demonstrated exceptional commitment to growth, collaboration, and service. Their leadership will have a lasting impact on their colleges, their communities, and the entire TCSG system.”
