HCMS and CES Recognized as Math Leaders by State of Georgia

On November 7, the Georgia Department of Education honored Heard County Middle School and Centralhatchee Elementary School by recognizing them as Math Leaders for 2025. The designation was given to both schools for showing tremendous student growth in the area of mathematics on state achievement tests during the 2024-25 school year. “We are extremely proud of these schools, these teachers, and these students,” stated Heard County School Superintendent Mike Roberts. “It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the faculty and leadership at Heard County Middle and Centralhatchee Elementary.”

Heard County Middle School received the specific recognition for outstanding growth in seventh grade mathematics and gateway growth in eighth grade mathematics. Centralhatchee Elementary was honored for outstanding gateway growth in both third and fifth grade mathematics. The GaDOE Math Leader honor celebrates schools that demonstrate extraordinary student progress and proficiency. Schools are recognized for achievement, growth, or both on annual end-of-grade or end-of-course assessments. The criteria recognize the crucial importance of grade-level numeracy skills in fifth and eighth grades.

“Strong literacy and math skills open the door for every opportunity our students will encounter in school, in their future careers, and in life,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “The schools recognized as Literacy Leaders and Math Leaders have shown a deep commitment to ensuring every student has the tools to succeed. I’m proud to honor their work and the positive impact they’re making on students across our state as we work to prepare all students for life.”
