On March 9, 2026, the Bremen Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting, where members approved several operational items, recognized board members for their service, and received updates on student achievements and school activities across the district.
One item was pulled from the consent agenda for a separate vote after a board member indicated a conflict of interest and abstained from participating. The board approved a recommendation to move the school system’s banking services from Bank Ozark to American Commerce Bank.
Several other items were approved as part of the consent agenda, including the purchase of HVAC equipment, the hiring of a construction manager for HVAC additions, a recommendation for RKR Construction to oversee that work, a new computer lease agreement, and a facilities request from the Bremen Parks and Recreation Department. School leaders noted that the HVAC additions were made possible through funding from the SPLOST agreement and continued support from the community.
The board also approved a revision to Board Policy IFBGE regarding internet safety for students. The policy had been presented during the February meeting and opened for public input. With no feedback received during that period, the board gave final approval during the March meeting.
Board Appreciation Week was also recognized during the meeting. Superintendent Shannon Christian noted that out of the 180 school boards in the state of Georgia, only six do not accept stipends for their service. Bremen’s Board of Education is one of those six and has historically served without compensation.
Board members were also recognized for their years of service through the Georgia School Boards Association. The organization has returned to the tradition of awarding service pins in increments of eight years. Mr. Pollard and Mr. Barrow were recognized for a minimum of eight years of service, while Chairman Vann Pelt received recognition for at least sixteen years of service.
Several informational updates were also shared highlighting student and staff accomplishments. Bremen students were preparing to compete in the state mock trial competition, while the literary team recently won the region competition and will compete in its twelfth consecutive state competition later this month.
School nutrition staff reported that all Bremen school cafeterias recently received perfect scores of 100 on their health inspections. Officials also shared that approximately $95,000 in entitlement funds are helping expand the availability of fruits and vegetables in school lunches while allowing the district to source more food locally.
Additional updates included two staff members preparing to compete in a statewide culinary competition, preparations for a summer turf installation project, and early evaluations for replacing the sound system at the stadium. Technology staff also reported that a phishing attempt shortly after Christmas was successfully intercepted by district safeguards before any damage occurred.
The board also approved several personnel actions, including one resignation, one transfer, and five new staff recommendations. Certified personnel recommendations submitted by the principals of the elementary, academy, middle, and high schools were also approved.
With no further business to address, the meeting was adjourned.
