More than 150 church members, construction partners, design professionals, and project team members gathered Monday as Midway Church celebrated the placement of the final structural steel beam for its 60,000-square-foot expansion, marking a major milestone in the church’s NEXT: For Generations to Come initiative.
A longstanding construction tradition, a topping out ceremony commemorates the placement of a building’s final structural steel beam while recognizing the collective effort behind the project. During the ceremony, attendees signed the ceremonial beam with their names, prayers, and messages of encouragement before it was lifted into place, creating a lasting symbol of the faith, generosity, craftsmanship, and partnerships that have made the project possible.
The expansion is a key component of Midway Church’s NEXT: For Generations to Come initiative, a church-wide vision to expand the church’s capacity to make disciples and serve families throughout West Georgia. Once complete, the addition will provide expanded ministry environments for preschool, children, preteens, students, and young adults, dedicated space for the church’s growing Special Needs Ministry, additional adult ministry space, gathering areas, and improvements that will allow Midway to transform its existing office building into the Lifeline Community Resource Center.
“Today’s topping out ceremony is a celebration of God’s faithfulness and the incredible generosity of our church family,” said Dr. Kevin Rivers, Lead Pastor of Midway Church. “While we’re grateful to see the final beam placed, we’re even more excited about the lives that will be impacted inside these walls for generations to come. This expansion is ultimately about creating more opportunities for people to know Jesus, find community, and grow in their faith.”
Construction is being led by RaLin, serving as the project’s general contractor.
“It is an honor to partner with Midway Church on a project that is so deeply rooted in purpose,” said Tres Jernigan, Executive Vice President, RaLin. “Reaching this milestone reflects the collaboration of Midway Church, our design partners, and the many skilled trade contractors who have helped bring this vision to life. We’re proud to help create a place that will serve families and the West Georgia community for generations to come.”
Construction will continue over the coming months, with the expanded campus anticipated to open in summer 2027. Once complete, the new facilities will significantly increase Midway Church’s capacity to serve the growing West Georgia community while advancing its mission of uniting all generations to go make disciples of Jesus.
