A new exhibit at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, September 17 – October 26, showcases the metamorphosis of trash into artistic treasure.
In Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine, artist Tahnee Conner creates “monster plants” from discarded materials – cemetery flowers, abandoned containers and fragments destined for the landfill – assembling them with an almost playful process rooted in improvisation. These pieces exist in a space between the natural and the artificial, the grotesque and the whimsical.
“This show is going to be fun,” said Center for the Arts Visual Arts Coordinator Marcella Kuykendall. “Tahnee creates these playful, animated but still creepy botanical monsters that are just a delight to be around. The fact that her work utilizes repurposed materials reflects her creativity and makes them all the more interesting.”
The arts center will host a closing reception for the exhibit, October 22, 5pm – 7pm. Patrons are welcome to attend in costume. Mayhayley’s Grave will perform.
Two October workshops inspired by the exhibit will expand the show’s reach:
Plant Monsters – Gallery Play Workshop
October 3 | 10:30am – 4:30pm
Participants will build imaginative creature-plants while exploring simple sculpture and mixed-media techniques.
Ages 5-7: 10:30am – 11:30am
Ages 8-12: 12:30pm – 2pm

Explore construction techniques, assemblage, texture, form and mixed-media processes while learning how everyday junk can become extraordinary art. All materials provided.
