A Bowdon sweet shop at 135 West College Street, Bowdon, Georgia 30108 is entering a new chapter with a refreshed business model that puts homemade cookie mixes and gourmet treats at the center of what it does. Owner Brittany Phillips said the business looks much different than it did before. The shop previously operated as a full-service bakery with a much larger selection and custom orders, but the relaunch has brought a simpler approach focused on a smaller lineup of cookies, specialty treats, and mixes customers can take home and make themselves.
The idea behind the restart was to give customers a way to enjoy bakery-style desserts from their own kitchens. The shop typically offers around six cookie flavors, along with treats such as chocolate-covered Oreos, gourmet chocolate bars made in-house, and Rice Krispie treats. Many of the items available in the store connect directly to the mixes on the shelves, giving customers the opportunity to recreate cookies, brownies, blondies, and other treats at home.
At the heart of the business is a family recipe. Brittany said the original mix was inspired by a chocolate chip cookie recipe passed down from her grandmother. That recipe became the foundation for a growing lineup of mixes that can be used to make gourmet cookies, blondies, pancakes, and other desserts.
What started as a local idea has grown well beyond Bowdon. The business now sells its mixes both retail and wholesale, shipping products to customers and retailers in several states. Brittany said wholesale orders have gone to places including Colorado, Kansas, Alabama, New York, and Texas. It was a direction she never originally expected the business to take, but it has become an important part of the shop’s growth.
Customers can also purchase products online through the business website and app. The team goes live every Thursday to showcase and sell products, while regular online ordering is available as well. The business also works with schools on fundraisers and larger orders.
Even with products now traveling far beyond Carroll County, the Bowdon storefront remains an important part of the business. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For Brittany, this new chapter is about keeping things simple while giving customers more ways to enjoy the recipes that helped build the business in the first place.
