Some History on The First Tuesday Mall

History Of The First Tuesday Mall
In Her Own Words -By: Ruthella Burden

When I first moved to Carrollton in 1979 there was a TG&Y store that my mother and good friend worked at. Also a Winn Dixie, Theater, Baskin Robbins, and a place called the Ice Cream Shop I think. I remember a man who worked there who was very nice. They would put a malted milk ball into the bottom of a waffle cone so your Ice Cream would not run out of the bottom. Mcclain’s Jewelry was there too. I do remember there was a Belk but it moved to the other side of town.

Message from The Carrollton Menu – The TG&Y store was a five and dime shop or variety store. It was headquartered in Oklahoma City. All of the stores eventually closed in 2001. The Food Depot sits where the Winn Dixie was and previously Martin’s Family Clothing was located where the old Belk Store was in the current Fred’s Location. I want to thank Ruthella Burden for contributing to this article.
