RA-LIN Project Earns Prestigious LEED® Gold Green Building Award

 Greenway

January 15, 2013, (Carrollton, GA) – RA-LIN announced today that the Greenway Medical Technologies new headquarters complex has been awarded LEED® Gold. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

The Greenway project was built by RA-LIN and Associates as a design/build contractor. The company worked with Alex Roush Architects to complete the 67,000 square foot facility in just over a year. “In addition to achieving Greenway management’s vision with this outstanding building complex, one of the things RA-LIN is most proud of is that we were able to divert 99% of the construction waste, debris and trash from west Georgia landfills by reusing and recycling materials” said Ben Garett, president of RA-LIN.

The Greenway facility achieved LEED certification by implementing practical, measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

“Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems”, said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair of the U. S. Green Building Council. The Greenway Medical Technologies project efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come.”

Greenway’s complex was designed with high efficiency plumbing appliances that are about 43% more water efficient than buildings of comparable size and occupancy. The mechanical systems are controlled by a monitored energy management system that cycles day and night to control energy consumption.

Twenty-nine percent of the material utilized to construct the LEED Gold facility was made with recycled content and special purchasing searches were made to assure that materials used in construction came from manufacturers as close to the Carrollton site as possible.

All indoor materials such as paints, carpet, composite wood, adhesives and sealants were low volatile organic compound (VOC) materials. Employees can breathe easy inside the building but there is ample outdoor space for employee enjoyment as well including landscaped pathways, water ponds, outdoor dining and space for creative thinking.

Greenway is the first building in Carroll County to achieve this prestigious LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, D.C. based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings.
