Area residents will gain easier access to evening and weekend care for minor medical emergencies and on-the-job injuries as Tanner Urgent Care/Carrollton and Tanner Occupational Health relocate to a new facility on Highway 27 South.

The services’ current Carrollton location on Dixie Street, across from Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, will close Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 1 for the move. The new location at 1480 Highway 27 South in Carrollton will open on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 8 a.m.

Tanner Urgent Care offers walk-in treatment for minor medical emergencies — including colds and flu, cuts and lacerations, burns and rashes, fevers, sprains and more — with evening and weekend hours available so patients can access care on their schedule. Along with locations in Bremen and Villa Rica, Tanner Urgent Care serves more than 20,000 patient visits each year.

Tanner Occupational Health provides services to help employers manage — and prevent — work-related illnesses and injuries, including drug and alcohol screenings, new hire and Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, treatment of on-the-job injuries and more. Tanner Occupational Health, which began in 1996, serves almost 19,000 visits a year and helps in attracting employers and industry to the region.

“Tanner Urgent Care is a major part of our effort to expand access to care,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health System. “It allows people to see a provider on their schedule, be it the middle of the day or in the evening or over a weekend. For a lot of us, that’s a matter of convenience, but for some, that access to care can mean avoiding a more acute level of care, such as admission to the hospital. For people with chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes or asthma, getting prompt care is very important. That’s how Tanner Urgent Care helps us build a healthier community.”

The new location provides more convenient access to Tanner Urgent Care/Carrollton’s services, with more parking and exam facilities. It features almost 12,000-square-feet of space, with eight exam rooms, a procedure room, X-ray and laboratory facilities and a new area for physical therapy.

A new Tanner Urgent Care location in Bremen, at 100 Tanner Drive along Alabama Avenue, opened last fall, and Tanner Urgent Care/Villa Rica has been open in the Tanner at Mirror Lake medical office building since 2008. Tanner Urgent Care services also are available at Tanner Primary Care of Wedowee, located in the Tanner/East Alabama facility on South Main Street in Wedowee.

Tanner Urgent Care/Carrollton and Tanner Occupational Health will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Times at other Tanner Urgent Care locations vary. More information is available online at www.TannerUrgentCare.org.
