Well, we found a small piece of Gold while doing some panning! The whole family will enjoy the Pine Mountain Gold Museum located in Villa Rica, Georgia off 1881 Stockmar Rd! You might not know this but gold was discovered in 1820 around the Northern parts of Carroll County. This area is now Douglas County. You will now find the Mirror Lake Subdivision on much of the old mining land. However the Stockmar Park and mining areas have been preserved as a city park in Villa Rica. The museum features a 50 seat theater that guides you into the history of the land. Once the video is finished a full self guided museum tour awaits you. Many of the artifacts date back to the early 1800’s. Don’t miss the Coca-Cola section of the Pine Mountain Gold Museum! This museum is the only Georgia gold museum located at the site of an actual gold mine and with gold and gem panning on-site. Once outside you are able to walk around the park and see different exhibits along the 27-acre park self guided tour. Don’t go into the Mining Caves! The whole family is able to take a train ride around the entire area which is about 3/4 of a mile. The Pine Mountain Scenic Railroad was added just last year and it is the original train from Zoo Atlanta.  Make sure to visit the Live Farm Animal exhibit presented by the Douglas County Farm Bureau. We would like to give a special thanks to our tour guide Mr. Brewer along with Mrs. Linda Shaw.
