Progress on the Chapel Hill Culvert project

An update on a major construction project on one of the city and counties most busiest corridors. Work began last year by the WSA to replace a storm water culvert on Chapel Hill Rd at Anneewakee Creek next to Fowler field and Chapel Hills Golf Course. The much larger replacement culvert is replacing the smaller one currently there and was damaged during the 2009 floods that devastated Douglas County. The project is now in phase 2 out of phase 3. Traffic on Chapel Hill has shifted onto the temporary road constructed just to the east right next to Fowler Field. The new culvert is being installed in place of the old underneath the permanent Chapel Hill lanes. Once completed later this spring, phase 3 will include reconstructing the old lanes on Chapel Hill Rd. The project is expected to be complete before the end of the year. As with any construction project, delays are possible as the work is going on. We’ll have a look at the finished product later this year when complete.
